Catalog vs existing inventory updates

0
0

Hi Nitin,

I have noticed that the catalog file vs the inventoried systems are not refreshing accurately sometimes,

Ex: I have updated a single server with listed required updates under non-compliant systems. At that time the Bios update was not listed under the required list, but I noticed that the bios was not up-to-date with latest catalog source which was using that time.

Then I updated the server with the listed updates, but after the updates are applied server  did not appear under compliant system. Then I uploaded the old Catalog and then check the same system and it was listed under non-compliant again with the bios update, until then the particular system was missing in non-compliant or compliant list but it was there under RAC with old bios details.

Then again I uploaded the latest catalog - now the system shows under non-compliant system with bios update as required.
What could be the reason for it?

I am using the catalog files locally download from the dell FTP

PCI Simple Communications Controller - Latitude E6430s

I have seen a number of similar posts about this device being flagged by Device Manager as not having a driver installed. With my new Latitude E6430s I am having the same problem after a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I follwed the Dell "re-image how to guide" v A03 available through Dell and installed the chipset, etc. in the order requested. The Drivers and downloads site for this laptop under 64-bit Win7 does not give a "dell system software" driver.

Have installed most everything available for my system under Win7 64-bit, including "client system update", to no avail.

Thanks for any suggestions on where to find necessary drivers!!

In addition, at first I also had a problem with the Intel Wireless card - it also appeared in the list after installing the driver and the Intel WiDi application. Installing the "Update Package for Microsoft® Windows®" for the Dell Intel (R) WiMAX Link 6250 finally took care of this problem.

Thanks again.

u2913wm stuck into "power save mode" during boot sequence

Hello,

Just received my brand new u2913wm today.

I encountered the following issue: upon start-up, the screen briefly displays "entering power save mode" and remains black until the Windows7 interface has loaded. As a result, I can no longer access the bios of my computer.

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 530s with Windows7. It has no such problem when connected to my older LCD screen (other brand).

Is there a fix?

Thank you in advance

How do I reach global tech support in Mexico?

Hello,

I am currently on a business trip in Mexico and I need to exchange the display of my Dell E6400. I tried to call the number for the Dell global tech support given on Dell's web page but it seems it is incorrect! The number is 95-800-210-7607 and even my Mexican colleagues are telling me that it looks peculiar. I have tried calling it from my German cell phone, my Mexican colleague's cell phone and even from a phone booth, all that without success.

Could somebody help me please with the right number I can contact the global support in Mexico?

USB 3.0's not working properly on Dell Inspiron N5110

Hello!

My Inspiron N5110 is a little over two years old. For maybe the past 8 months, my USB 3.0's haven't been working properly. Device Manager will show a caution symbol next to the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller, and give a Code 10: Device Unable to Start error message under properties. While my 3.0s are in this state, they provide power to any device plugged into them; for example my headphones and cooling pad, but are unable to transfer any data for things like a wireless mouse.

I've updated my chipset drivers, my USB drivers, and my BIOS with the official recommended drivers from the Dell support site (using my service tag to find the ones for my computer if I may add). Sometimes, reinstalling the Renesas Host Controller will temporarily fix the issue until I reboot, or put my computer to sleep. After it breaks again; sometimes rebooting and going into my BIOS and changing a USB setting will fix the issue again until I reboot; but this stopped working after I once again reinstalled the Host Control drivers.

Here is a pastebin of my laptop specs[2] , obtained through the Win 7 system info program. If anyone could give advice on fixing this, which has gotten very annoying, then I'd be most grateful.

Ps: I forgot to clarify that there was not an event which triggered my 3.0s to cease working correctly; to my knowledge. One day about 8 months ago they just up and stopped working right.

Pss: If anyone wants it, this is my laptop's Dell Service Tag:

N5110 hinge break: irreparable?

Hi there,

I have an out of warranty Inspiron 15R N5110 (3 years old). Our fan stopped working, so I opened the body up to have a look at it, but found during the disassembly that our laptop never came with a metal hinge bracket for the base part of the right hinge. Because of this, when I unscrewed the hinge screws, the screw holders (typically below and held firm in place by the metal bracket) snapped off.

It doesn't look to be something I can replace, because what snapped looks to be a part of the bronze/metal frame that runs throughout the bottom of the casing.

The part that snapped looks a bit like a tiny screw end cap, insulated in a ring of metal-looking plastic.

If you know the part of the machine I'm talking about, Is there any way this could be fixed? Because otherwise I have a £800 paperweight!

Thanks Dell team.

Dell OptiPlex 7010 SFF persistent fan rattle after three different heatsinks!

I work for a department that has recently bought over 40 new dell machines to replace a fleet of old optiplex G620's which have to be fair been bullet proof if a little slow.

When looking at the 7010's after we had them delivered I didn't particularly like the small heatisnk and blower assembly but as it is a SFF machine that was to be expected.

The problem is one one machine I cannot get rid of this rattle:

(Please visit the site to view this video)

This happened with the heatsink this particular machine was first shipped with. Dell support sent a new heatsink out the next day. Super. I fitted it but within 10 minutes it was the same.

Then dell support sent a engineer out to replace it again  and within a week it is again doing as shown in the video above.

Now I am concerned (I pushed for Dell built machines) that we have a fleet of 40 machines with these seemingly very very low quality fans attached to i7 based workstations and I have serious doubts they will last 7 years like the G620's before them!

Has anyone got any ideas what would be the next port of call? Not particularly happy with just swapping out cheap Chinese fan for cheap Chinese fan over and over again.

Lost order and still no replacement order

Can someone please explain to me one thing. When an initial order is lost in shipping, why does it take 8-10 days to ship a replacement? The laptop I ordered was available to ship the next day, and I paid extra for two day delvery. When it was lost, I would have been better off canceling that order and just ordering a another one. This makes absolutly no sense to me. I have talked to more Dell customer support people than I can remember. And each time I get a different answer. I have had two different ship dates, and yesterday, August 28th I was told they did not know when it would ship. I was called by someone at customer care but I missed the call. They left a message and told me to call them back. Well now all I get is voicemail. I left a message yesterday, got an email last night saying that I missed there call. I know I missed the call, what I don't know is where my laptop is. I need this laptop for a class, and I am a week into it with nothing. Everyone  I have talked to tells me how sorry they are......quite frankly I don't care how sorry they are...I JUST WANT WHAT I PAID FOR! And I want reimbersed for the two day shipping that clearly didn't happen. If this is what Dell calls customer support, then that is just sad.

Hi,

We have a 2950 with a Perc 5i installed.  (And 3.5" bays).  We need to access a 2.5" Perc created raid disk.  We have 1950, with 2.5" bays.   Is it possible to move the Perc card from the 2950 to the 1950?

The configuraiton lists (the card in the 2950 as):

WX072        1               Assembly, Card(Circuit), PERC5I Serial Attached SCSI, 1950, 2950

Inspiron N4110 - Beeps 5 times and getting real time clock error when it is booted and data and clock set to 01-01-2010 & 00:00, even though it is changed.

Hi,

I have purchased Dell 14" Inspiron N4110 an year back. Soon after one year warrenty, in the next few days, I ran into this problem with the laptop.

When it is powered on, it keeps beeping 5 times with 1 sec interval and is repetitive continuously with a gap of 3 sec between cycles. It gives an error " Real time clock error" Press F1 for bootup or F5 for setup mode.

Once we use F1, it boots up and the clock is set to 01-01-2010 and time to 00:00. Even though we change the date and time settings, it is coming back to the values mentioned. But the time is increasing.

I'm really disappointed to see that life span of Dell laptop is only for 1 year and that is the reason, they give only 1 year warrenty.

When I called up Dell Customer Service Center, I was shocked to hear the cost for this repair.  I can almost buy another new laptop with that cost.

Just hoping someone from this community would help in resolving this with a cheaper solution.

Thanks,

Anil

Strange issue with my n5010 laptop.

Hi All,

I have a Dell inspiron n5010 laptop. When i power on it, I just get a blinking cursor on the screen & OS doesnt load. The cursor remains forever. I tried entering BIOS by F2 & then set 1st boot order to Hard drive, but still same issue. I then tried pressing F12 to select the boot device & then when I select hard drive, the system boots with 3 beeps. I get windows logon screen & everything seems to be working fine.

But again when I restart my laptop, it comes to the same blinking screen. Everytime when I press F12 & select hard drive as the boot device, the system boots up with 3 beeps & all works well. I have also tried running mydell application from windows 7 OS & no issues found.

I have also tried running diagnostic by pressing F12, but no error found.

Please suggest what needs to be done to boot my laptop without any issues.

Regards,

Vishal

Dell T5400 Vista 64-bit upgrade?

0
0

Well, I got a Vista 64-bit disk, and set out to upgrade the system. The reinstall stalls on "computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk." The discussion I find online suggests that a second disk drive might be interfering with the reinstall, but there is only one disk drive. My local expert suggests that this motherboard might not support a 64-bit OS. That doesn't sound right for this fairly high-end system, but I suppose it is possible. Is that the case? Any ideas how I can proceed?

Studio XPS 9100 Crashing/Locking Up

0

I have a Studio XPS 9100 (about 2 ½ yrs old) that a few months ago started occasionally crashing/locking up (sometimes with blue screen, sometimes not). It’s recently started doing this a lot more.

Now basically every time I start it up it will crash within a couple minutes of logging in (7 Pro is OS). Then when it boots up again it usually locks up pretty quickly, sometimes before I can even log in. So turn off/ turn on again and it may crash one more time or not. After that it can actually operate normally for hours without problem.

Reviewing event logs the only thing I’m seeing at startup is an error with something called PC-Doctor. It’s not available in Remove programs and from what I’ve found apparently it’s something Dell installs and can’t really be removed. I assume this isn’t the problem. Other than that I don’t think it’s a software issue. Also, I’m sure there’s no viruses. I have the latest Kaspersky running and also run Malwarebytes and Spybot scans weekly etc.

From what I’ve found on web searches it sounds like this is probably a hardware issue. Unfortunately hardware troubleshooting is not my thing at all.

My research found suggestions to troubleshoot are all over the place – memory problem, CPU, motherboard, bad voltage regulator, video card, power supply etc.

I tried running Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool, 3 times actually. First and third times it found nothing. Second time while running it reported that a Hardware Problem was detected and that after it completed and rebooted I could log in and get the error information. But it locked up during the test and never got past 2% complete (I let it go for a couple hours and it went nowhere). The ESC key didn’t work, it was completely locked up. I rebooted and logged in and got no information about the supposed problem. So 2 of 3 tests okay and one lockup during the test, not sure what that means but it doesn’t seem definitive.

Any suggestions on what I should try to do next to find the problem? I don’t want to just start randomly replacing major hardware components hoping to stumble on the problem.

Thanks.
